| Lawton, S. & Ernesti, D. (1998). Are staffers headed in the right direction? Nursing Management, 29(7), 28-30. |
Case study of an intervention strategy of one new nurse whose coworkers and evaluations showed that she was making serious errors.
Using regular meetings between mentors/supervisors and the nurse, a training plan and learning contract were constructed and carried out.

Provide a framework that will "identify strengths and opportunities for improvement as well as to provide the foundation for an effective plan that was agreeable to all parties." |
Though the plan appeared to be a good one and the team believed that they had designed for many if not all foreseeable contingencies, after only three weeks in the program, the nurse committed such a serious error that she had to be dismissed. The full plan was never carried out. |
